Frank Omiyale Needs To Be Benched

Frank OmiyaleI'm on my soap box on this one and I'm not getting off my soap box until things change.  I am completely enraged watching the replay of the Seahawks vs. Bears game.  Matt Forte is having a hell of a lot trouble running the football, and the problems are not his fault.  Everyone is beginning to question if Forte is having a shaky second year, is he experiencing a sophomore slump.  Is he perhaps still feeling the effects of  a pre-season injury from OTAs.  The problem is hard to see given that the focus should be directed on a group of players that don't normally get a lot of glory.  In this case though one person deserves a lot of the blame.

The fault with the Bears lack of running game is because of how bad the offensive line sucks right now.  Specifically because how bad Frank Omiyale is.  There is no other way to explain it other than Frank Omiyale should likely be cut and the Bears should just swallow his salary with the cap room they have let, go out and re-sign Dan Buenning to be Josh Beekman's back up and move forward from there.

There is absolutely no excuse in the world for Frank Omiyale to not be sitting on the bench right now.  None whatsoever and it's mind boggling that a trained professional like Lovie Smith, Ron Turner etc can't see what I see on a week to week basis.  I am just a simple minded blogger with some football background but no professional football background like the staff of the Chicago Bears.  However what I see on a week to week basis is so glaringly obvious that it's an embarrassment to the Chicago Bears organization.

Frank Omiyale may actually be the worst offensive guard in the NFL right now.  I can't state for certain, but I would love to see another starting offensive guard in the NFL who is playing as poorly as Frank Omiyale is right now.  His play is completely unacceptable on a whole different level and it's going to cost the Bears a loss or two, maybe it already has in the Packers game.

There is no sugar coating this with "well it's only week three maybe the line will gel and play better together".  No this is simply a guy who can't play football at the NFL level who shouldn't be starting for a team that has a RB capable of playing at a Pro-Bowl level.  Forte is being hampered by poor O-Line play more specifically the worst play of an offensive lineman I have seen to this point in my life.

Frank Omiyale may go down as the biggest waste of free agent money in the history of the Chicago Bears organization.  The way he gets pushed around when attempting to run block is almost comical in nature.  Instead it's altogether sad given how it's effecting the production of Matt Forte.

Frank OmiyaleThe strongest aspect of your offensive line is supposed to be the left side of your offensive line.  When you need the big tough yards you run behind the left side of the line and power forward at will.  The Minnesota Vikings understand this perhaps better than any other team in the game of football.  Having had hall of fame left guard Randall McDaniel opening  holes for years and making start after start in the Pro Bowl, they let him go to the Buccaneers via free agency.  After a couple years without McDaniel, the Vikings went out and dropped a boat load of money on free agent and possible future hall of famer Steve Hutchinson to man their left guard spot.  Hutchinson is easily the best offensive guard in the league right now and is a part of the reason why Adrian Peterson looks like the freak he is.  Peterson's life is made  all the more easier because he runs behind Steve Hutchinson.

The Bears don't need that, but they do need an adequate player.  Josh Beekman was adequate, in fact by KC Joyner's account he was more than adequate as a left guard last year.  Beekman was clearly running ahead of Omiyale throughout OTAs, training camp and the pre-season games.  Yet Frank Omiyale was anointed the starter simply because of the guaranteed money he has in the first year of his contract.  Not because he is a better guard, not because he earned the job, but because he's being paid more than Josh Beekman.  Being paid money that is on par with most solid starters in the NFL.

The Bears however are getting no where near their moneys worth out of Omiyale.  Instead they are getting a stalled rushing attack and they are becoming a one-dimensional offense and could even be putting Forte at risk for injury.  Frank Omiyale should truthfully save himself from further embarrassment and bench himself for the benefit of the team.

Normally an offensive lineman doesn't get noticed until he screws up, and it's perhaps in some circles completely unfair to single out one player on a unit that is playing so poorly.  This time however it is completely justified, in a season in which the offense has held much promise in being one of the best offense's in the league the time is now to stand up.  Stand up and fight for Matt Forte and the success of this offense, unexpected success that is being delivered from the receivers.

A level of success and promise that could put the Bears on the path to the Super Bowl, if only balance is brought to the left side of the offensive line.

FRANK O has to GO!!! #68 STINKS

We really need a left guard to get the running game going. I never thought one position could mean so much in an entire offense, but it was evident on Sunday night versus the Falcons. Frank O #68, left guard for the Bears is horrible. He is slow to get off the line, he falls too far back when pulling allowing defenders to penetrate, he's not disciplined with the snap calls, his blocking is not even close to sub-par, and when he is suppose to block down field- he doesn't. We need to get rid of him. Replace him with anybody- another guard, another tackle, Waddle, or Silvy- anyone would be an up grade. Just look at the film from the Falcons game- His man was the one to stop Forte on both goal line attempts and his guy was the one to block the slant throw to Knox that would have been a TD- three huge plays that should have gone the Bears direction! Let the chant begin- FRANK O has to GO!!! FRANK O has to GO!!! FRANK O has to GO!!! #68 Creates the FATE- He must GO!!!

Allegedly there are rumblings that Lovie is considering a change. It's hard to read through all of the Lovie speak, but there may be subtle signs that Omiyale may finally be gone.
