Recently there were quotes that surfaced from Cedric Benson proclaiming that the Chicago Bears organization attempted to black ball him from signing with another team in the NFL. Essentially saying the Bears tried to launch a smear campaign against him and his character and degraded him and his character.
To this I say Cedric Benson is simply full of shit. Thanks to the blog world and the unfiltered window by which you can choose to view my posts and I can choose by which to write, you can hear some unvarnished truth.
When Benson was drafted by the Bears in the 2005 draft, that was the first major mistake the Bears, and it would be the last. From there Benson held out through most of training camp and alienated himself from most of the fans and his teammates in Chicago. His non-chalant me first negative attitude is and never has been what the Chicago Bears organization has been about.
Benson however only further brought about his downfall with the fans with his style of play. Benson was a weak and pathetic runner in Chicago. For a franchise familiar with Walter Payton's hard charging running style Benson was a jolt of shock to the system for the way he seemed to shy away from contact. He would run out of bounds when an oncoming defender would get near him on plays to the outside rather than burying his head and attempting to fight for extra yards.
Benson was also constantly injury prone, he was injured when he finally did show up to training camp and only playing in nine games in 2005. Then Benson went down with another injury during the Super Bowl when Bob Sanders drilled him as he ran up the middle on his first carry of the biggest game of his life.
For a guy who should have been a physical back he often times sat out after plays in which he received more contact than he enjoyed. He was always soft during his tenure in Chicago and rarely gave much effort and always had a litany of excuses as to why he wasn't ever productive.
Benson was never one to accept any blame, rather he was always will to blame everyone else but himself. As seems to the case even more now that he's no longer in Chicago. Benson has gone on a constant media blitz of blame since he signed with the Bengals. Trying to smear a class organization that put up with him for far too long and got nothing in return.
Benson is the worst kind of player in the NFL, a selfish whiny cry baby who is simple out for no one but himself. A child that takes no responsibility for his own actions and in the same breath truly black balls and organization that did him favor after favor and tried to protect what was supposed to a shining star within the most prolific franchise in the history of the NFL.
