Arizona Cardinals Wanted It More And Win 41-21

Deja vu, been there before, seen this one, is this a sequel, where have I seen this before, Ground Hog Day.  No matter how you want to slice it that is exactly what happened today in the first and defining half of the game today.  This is the team that played against the Bengals, that lost the game against the Bengals that was torn up by the Bengals.

The first half stats were almost identical, 31 first half points, over 300-yards of offense, six out of six on third down for 100-percent conversion percentage and the Cardinals scored on their first five straight drives.  The Bengals had 31 points 292 yards of total offense and were 4 out of 5 on third down and scored on their first five drives.

The fact that I have to write this stat out against a playoff caliber team for the second time in three weeks let's you know that the Bears are not a playoff caliber team.  The problems on defense are much worse than we have seen from the offense this year.  Scream and yell about Ron Turner all you want, but Turner has nothing to do with the defense and with the way they played today for the second time this season all 11 starters should be canned.

Rebuild the defense entirely because the Bears couldn't stop the run or the pass or anything the Arizona Cardinals did.  Although this game was much worse because the Cardinals came into the game with the worst rushing attack in the NFL.  Instead they lined up more motivated, more focused and showed they had a bigger sack than the men in front of them.  They blasted through the Bears for 182-yards rushing after not showing any ability to run the ball at any time this season.

Then the Bears couldn't cover or stop Larry Fitzgerald and decided to leave him in constant one on one coverage.  No Anquan Boldin?  No problem, the Cardinals were able to throw and complete passes for Fitzgerald almost at will.  The All-Pro receiver finished with nine catches for 123-yards and two touchdowns.

Fans have wanted to point the finger at the offense, but for the last two weeks it's been about the defense.  It was the Bengals game all over again, only this time the offense came out onto the field and answered the call.  Jay Cutler led the offense down the field with PRECISION PASSING to tie the game up at 7-7 and swing momentum over to the Bears.

But Kurt Warner and the Cardinals stole the momentum right back and snowballed it into an avalanche that the Bears were defenseless to stop.

Now at the half way point of the season it's pretty simple to say that the Bears are likely going down the tubes in a hurry.  There is no longer any excuses left for this defense.  Tommie Harris or not the front four get zero pressure on the QB, the secondary is lazy in it's effort and execution in coverage and the linebackers can't seem to tackle anyone.

To say this team may need a complete overhaul on defense may be an absolute understatement.  I have no idea what type of positive direction this team can go in with the current 11 starters on defense.  Right now there may not be one player on the defense that I would keep around.  Every single player on the defense needs to be held accountable for that level of play and the coaching staff likely should begin to update their resumes because they shouldn't be around much longer given that this team will likely be who we see on the field from now on.
